Third round, cards dealt, the table finally has a rhythm โ then someone says, "I have to go." The hard part isn't the player leaving. It's the table left with no rule to follow.
Players leave mid-session for reasons nobody argues with: a family emergency, sudden fatigue, a shift change, or an argument that went too far. What separates a night that ends in laughter from one that ends in silence is whether the group settled the rules beforehand.
Nobody deals while the table is arguing. Pause the round, let the leaving player explain in one sentence, and move any tense conversation away from the table.
Playing while upset produces bad decisions, and then the group ends up fighting about a declaration instead of the absence.
The decision belongs to the majority at the table, not to the team that lost a player. If the argument is about points, ending the night is calmer than forcing a solution.
This is where fights start. The clearest rule: points belong to the seat, not the person. The substitute continues from the same total, because the earlier rounds were played and cannot be erased.
The round the player left in the middle should be cancelled and redealt โ its result was never completed.
Points the leaving player already earned stay on the sheet. Removing them punishes him for a situation he didn't choose.

Three sentences, said once, prevent most of this:
Put them in the group chat so the debate doesn't restart every month.
A Kout night is a weekly appointment with friends, not a tournament. Treat an exit as a fact, not a betrayal. The player leaving is usually already uncomfortable.
Make the door easy: "No problem, we'll play it another time." That sentence protects the group more than any points rule. If the same player keeps leaving early, talk to him privately, never across the table.
One more habit: name a single scorekeeper for the night, so the sheet has an owner.
