Moving Session Scores From Paper to the App

Kout Score Blog

Every Kout session produces a small sheet of paper with names and numbers, and it usually gets folded into a pocket and never read again. The problems start when you want to know who won the month, or which team is actually stronger. Moving those scores into the app takes five minutes if the paperwork is in order.

Before entry: fix the sheet itself

The first step happens at the table, not on your phone. Make sure the sheet has all four player names, the two teams, and the score for each round written clearly. If the writing is scrambled and the numbers overlap, a week later you will not be able to tell which figure belongs to which round.

Check the numbers before you leave the table

This is the most important step and the most skipped. Before you get up, read the scores out loud to the other players: "you are on 42, I am on 38, they are on 45 and 39." Any disagreement gets settled in a minute while everyone still remembers the rounds. Wait until the next day and all you get is an argument.

Then check the totals: the round scores should add up to the totals written at the bottom. If there is a gap, the mistake is in one place only and you can find it quickly.

Enter round by round, not one final total

The biggest mistake is entering a single total per player. Enter each round instead, because that is what tells you later where the session turned. Short on time? At minimum enter the two halves of the session separately.

This is where it gets easier: the Kout Score app helps you record and track Kout session scores in order, and it is free on Google Play.

When the session breaks or a player changes

It happens all the time. Someone leaves, someone else takes the seat, or the game pauses for an hour and resumes after dinner. Mark the break with a clear horizontal line on the sheet and start a fresh block after it. Never merge the scores of the player who left with the one who replaced him, even if it is the same chair, because you will ruin both records.

Keep the paper for at least a week after entry. If your total ever disagrees with what the table remembers, the paper settles it. The app holds the running record; the sheet holds the evidence.
