Memoirs of an Old Kuwaiti Kout Player

Before smartphones and game apps took over, Kout was played on a wooden table in the diwaniya, next to a dallah of coffee and a cigarette. The grandfather sat at the head, the younger men gathered around, and the cards were worn soft from years of use.

The diwaniya: the first Kout school
