Most arguments at Kout tournaments do not start with the cards. They start with the numbers. A round ends, two teams read the figure differently, and the discussion begins. The fix is not smarter players โ it is a clear scorekeeping desk from the first round to the last.
Because it is the reference. If the table runs fine but there is no single record, every number becomes a debate. The desk gives the tournament one memory, and everyone knows where to go when something is unclear.
It also protects the tournament's reputation. A team that doubts a result does not want reassurance, it wants a sheet it can look at. A clear sheet ends an argument faster than any explanation.
Four small roles, each with a clear job:
Keep the desk away from the playing tables as far as you can, with a copy of the round schedule and the tournament rules on it. Whoever records should not play that same round โ nobody follows cards and figures at once.
Before the event, design a single form: round name, team names, table number, and points. The same form every round, no improvising, because differences between sheets are the first source of error.
Print the copies in advance and keep a phone copy as a backup. If tea lands on the sheet, the tournament does not stop.
Double entry means every round's figure is written twice: once by the table recorder and once at the desk. The numbers are matched before the next round starts. If they differ, it is settled then, not three rounds later.
The final match is on the sum of rounds, not on memory. Any missing round or crossed-out figure gets a note and the recorder's signature beside it, never a silent correction. Silent corrections are what create suspicion.
Announce results between rounds in one voice, and tell teams the figures are published and open for review at a set time. Regular announcements reduce doubt, and people get used to a record existing.
After the event, keep the records: the original sheets and a file with the final total. Photograph and store them, because a complaint a week later needs evidence, not a conversation.
