Kout in Dust and Rain: Setting Up in Kuwait's Rough Weather

Kout Score Blog

Kuwait weather does not ask permission. A clear morning turns into a dust-heavy afternoon, and a dry evening can end with rain that cancels the plan. A Kout session does not need much to survive that โ€” just a little setup before the group arrives.

Cards are paper: card stock absorbs humidity, dust roughens the surface between them, and the deck sticks and deals badly. That spoils the whole night, not one hand.

Before the Session: Table and Deck

Setup starts before the first player arrives โ€” ten minutes, made a habit.

In a yard or open diwaniya, move the table away from the door and any open window; dust covers everything in a minute.

Keeping score through that mess is easy: Kout Score helps you count and track your Kout session scores โ€” free on Google Play. Write points as they happen and check them later instead of hunting a handwritten sheet.

Windows and Airflow Without Overheating

When the wind picks up, close the windows on the dusty side and leave the other side open if the air is calmer. A ceiling fan on low is enough.

If the room is small and the group is large, do not open the door to the yard โ€” use fewer players per table or two shorter blocks. Heat plus dust is harder than heat alone.

Protecting the Deck Box and Travelling in Rain

The box is protection, not packaging. Keep it closed between rounds and give it a fixed spot away from hands and cups. If it is cardboard, put it in a clear plastic bag for transport.

In rain, transport is the real problem โ€” a wet deck does not dry quickly. Before you head out:

Moving Indoors in Ten Minutes

Agree the indoor plan before you need it: the backup room, where the table goes, and who helps carry.

Order: cards first, then the table, then personal items. Never set the deck on the floor or on a chair near the door.

If the power cuts โ€” which happens with heavy rain โ€” one flashlight, or a candle kept well away from the cards, is enough to carry on.

Once settled, watch the group: dust makes people edgy and heat shortens patience, so keep cold water out, take shorter breaks, and go easy on mistakes.
