A 24-hour Kout relay is not a test of who plays best. It is a long, noisy way to spend a day in the diwaniya with your group, and it only works if someone plans it. Split the players into shifts of six teams, keep one score sheet across every shift, and hand the tables over cleanly every few hours. Do that and the night runs itself.
The simplest setup is 24 players on six teams, three tables, two teams per table according to your group's house rules. Split them into two shifts of three tables each: shift A from late afternoon to midnight, shift B from midnight to afternoon. With fewer players, run two tables and stretch each shift.
Before the first hand, write the rules on one sheet and stick it by the table: rounds per shift, how points are counted, and what happens if a team is late or drops out. Settle the scoring argument before it starts.
Rotation beats enthusiasm. Post a written schedule with each team's start and end time, and put a clock where everyone can see it. Nobody remembers at hour six.

Food is part of the plan. Players who skip meals make more mistakes and snap faster. Agree on two real meals โ a light dinner early and breakfast before the morning shift โ plus dates, fruit or sandwiches in between. Tea and coffee stay on all night, but ease off near the end of a shift.
Sleep is the hard part, so schedule it like a match. Pick a quiet room away from the tables, give every player a known slot even if it is twenty minutes, and protect it. Twenty minutes between rounds beats fighting it for seven hours.
Sound carries out of a courtyard or basement, especially after midnight. Set a volume rule at the start: no shouting over points, no drums, door closed. If the neighbours are close, tell them a day ahead.
Fatigue has clear signs: repeated counting mistakes, snapping at a partner, forgetting who played what. Rotate the player out instead of arguing. Keep a first-aid box with plasters, antiseptic and painkillers, cold water, and an emergency number. Anyone dizzy or with a bad headache sits out until they feel better.
For the winner, use each team's total across all 24 hours, not one shift. If the top two are close, play a short final and announce the result before people leave.
None of this is required to enjoy Kout, and a normal evening is enough for most groups. If you try it, start with two shifts.
